Rainy afternoons

These are the worst. The kind of day where it feels like night when you wake up& just never seems to get any brighter. I've been tired since 7AM because of lack of vitamin D. It's only 8PM but I feel like I've been awake for months ..not to mention the fact that it is 10C out. Can you say chilly?! The dogs didn't seem to mind though. They spent 25 minutes at the beach swimming in the giant waves chasing after sticks.

What you just read? That was written yesterday. Apparently, it was such a miserable day I couldn't even bring myself to finish my blog post. Today the weather is more of the same but I have a lot of things to do. We are heading off for an agility competition tomorrow AM& I'm super excited. I am also, however, lacking the motivation to get off my bum. So instead I'm looking through phone photos& remembering when Penny was tiny& cute.

Sweet baby Penny with my sweet baby nephew, Grady! They were snuggled up watching Cars after a hard afternoon playing tug with each other. Now when they snuggle, there's a significant size difference! I guess I'll need to snap an updated photo for comparison.

Well, it seems like maybe today the sunshine will win out over the cold.. which means even worse things for my packing motivation. AND it all has to be done before 6PM because Garret& I have plans for dinner& a movie. It isn't looking too good for an early night. On the bright side, I did manage to get Penn's food packed& my camera charged. If nothing else, at least we won't starve& we'll even have photos of the event to return to you with!

With that, I'm now officially out of slacking time. Off to turn this possibly-sunny day into a productive one and then I'll be back on Tuesday afternoon with a recap of our agility adventures. Anyone out there in Truro want to come visit? Feel free ..as long as you cheer for a brown Border Collie& me ;) Enjoy your Canada Day weekend, Canadian people! You Americans are almost to your national holiday. So keep holding out& maybe wear some red in honour of your northern neighbours!

Excellent Thursday!

...unless you're factoring the weather into it! Today was completely hateful ..it managed to get all the way to 11°C (52°F). Yup, it's July 14th. Everyone at the barn had winter coats and sweaters on. Awesome, eh?! All you people complaining about the heat seriously need to stop ;) Here on this little island we would kill for a little sunshine and temperature increase! Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same .. COME ON, Cape Breton. This is getting ridiculous. July& August are our only 2 warm months. Ugh. How is the weather where you are?!

Aside from my (very frequent) weather complaints, I had a lovely ride on my golden horse and then I got asked to ride the nicest little horse in the whole barn. I'm hoping someone will be around to snap a few photos for me. She is SO sweet that I cannot wait to go to the barns tomorrow to ride her! Plus I get to ride English which is such an amazing plus. I am so sick of western.

So on that note, remember how I said I'd have some photos of me sitting straight? Well I do have one! I got my girlfriend Crystal to snap one this afternoon and send it to me with her cell. So it's not fabulous but I am. so. straight.

LOOK.
I am so happy!

Is that -

MORE RAIN?! Good lord. If there was some type of sacrifice I could make to the gods to rid us of this rain, I would be more than willing! At this point things have just become ridiculous. It rains constantly. Not only does it rain but it's incredibly windy (which I blame on being an island) and COLD. It's June 15th and we're still in single digits.

Or if you're a crazy °F user?
We are a chilly 48°F over here on the island!

Brrr .. so thankful I only have to do a 6k tonight. It's even supposed to be my 'speed' run so the hateful weather will certainly be my motivation. Run quick to get back home& enjoy a nice hot shower!! Training sucks in this weather.

So aside from complaints about the weather (which I'm sure you're all getting sick of& for that I apologize), what else do I have to say in this blog post? Well ..Project 365 sort of died on me when I decided to take up training for triathlons, marathons& 3-day cycle tours. So while reading Stopping for Daisies, I came across her mention of 30 days of photo fun and decided that this was doable. I like when I have specific goals to photograph rather than depending on my creativity. For one because I have very little creativity to start with aha!

Neat, eh?
Found it here!

Much like little miss SFD, I am late to the party. I'm even later than her since she discovered it yesterday! So I am starting with Day 1 on June 15th. Better late than never, right?! So here is my self-portrait:

Post-much needed shower.
Hair still wet .. looking a mess.

Sunshine.

Yes, folks. Today my little island saw something that we haven't seen in three weeks. We saw the sun. He shone down on us& provided us with some much needed hope. Perhaps it WON'T rain eternally, after all. I was actually starting to pray the world would end on May 21st if it was just going to rain for the rest of my existence.
Even the pheasants tried running away.
No one likes a rain island.

So.. the sun came out to remind us not to wish this island would be scooped up by the sea. It wasn't exactly warm (I may or may not have taken a 15 minute scalding hot shower upon arriving home) but it was amazing to not be fighting cold, wind AND rain. I'll gladly take only 2 of those 3. Cold, wind and sunshine is just so much more pleasant.

So, I bombed through my 50k. I saved about 7 solid kilometres of hills for my final 10k ..obviously I'm not a thinker. I was going about 27km/hr until the last 40 minutes. The wind SUPER picked up .. the temperatures dropped a crazy amount and I was already fatigued. I spent my highway ride home thinking about how all I had all day were some boiled eggs and an arctic bar.

And they weren't even painted pretty like this one.
I had to eat boring old regular off-white eggs. Thanks, chicken.

So I tortured myself with thoughts of food. And thoughts of how I wish my brother could drive because I would totally make him come pick me up. I was not a happy camper in my last 15k of that ride. Ugh. Buttttttt - I survived (as evidenced by this blog post) and it wasn't the end of the world.

Total kilometres clocked today? 51.23 :D I can't really complain about that. I averaged 22km/hr but a lot of that was my last 10 - 15k. They knocked me out. Plus I did a 5 minute stop at Tims that dragged my average down. Without that pee break, I would have been closer to 23 (hey, 1km makes a difference to me)!

So, that's my ride recap. Now I'm off to indulge in a tea with the boyfriend. Bless his soul for coming to pick me up so I wouldn't have to drive.

Eventful Monday!

America is rejoicing because Osama is dead. Read my mom's blog for some thoughts on that.

Today is the official day to get out there& vote Canada! Your vote matters and you are an important part of our country. May as well make yourself count& participate :)

Also, Lakers have made it to the second round! GO LAKERS GO! I know what I'm spending doing from 11.30 - 2AM. DO YOU?

Barn trip perhaps later if it warms up. If it does, I will have some photos of Dewey for people reading! He's very cute .. too bad our weather sucks WAY too much for outside riding / photo taking. Ugh.

What is on the agenda for YOUR Monday?! Are you celebrating the fact that Bin Laden is swimming in the sea? Are you voting? How is your weather?
Enjoy the first day of the week!

Winter in spring

The title perfectly describes Cape Breton at this current moment. It's snowing .. it's cold .. it's windy .. did I mention there was SNOW?! The perk to the sucky weather today is that it's 12.52PM and I have already accomplished so many things! I will provide a brief overview and some details on the more exciting parts.

Haircut
Went to Rena at Hair Solutions. She was super sweet and it was a really laid back place. Had a few laughs, solved my hair issues, got bangs AND it didn't even cost me that much money! It was great and really perked up my mood. I now have lots of energy and am feeling better about the fact that it's freezing cold out. Mostly I'm just super happy that I have a hairdresser who can actually style my hair! Welcome back, fabulus curls :)

Contest
So, my blog contest only has today+ 3 more to enter! Hope you guys are planning on entering at some point! Don't forget the 4 ways to win (blog, comment, tweet, facebook) and also, all parts of the blog prize have been compiled and are just awaiting me to take their photo! I am trying to decide to how to best photograph them to show them ..I will be uploading both them& my photo of the day later this afternoon!

Silly String
I also bought 2 cans of this stuff. What I am going to use it for remains to be seen! Mostly I just want to spray someone or something with it ..I'm not picky. Contemplating covering my puppy in it, but can totally see that backfiring on me and ending up with a dog covered in silly string that I can't get off. LOL. He would hate me for the rest of his life. So I figure I'd spare him and just silly string something else. Just not entirely sure WHAT yet!

Today
You know that saying about today being a gift, that's why they call it the present or something? Yeah, if I wasn't so lazy I'd look it up. Well, I was thinking about that the other night at work ..and wondering how much truth was in it. Keep in mind, my evening at that moment was not going particularly well. My first thought was to think about how awesome my gifts have been from immediate family and friends (amazing) and those who got gifts for me because they wanted to come to my party / had to for some reason (less than amazing and also more abundant). Then I started thinking about about my days. Some moments are amazing, while most of the day is basically incredibly ordinary. I think these people might be onto something with this thought. So, my end thought? Each day probably is a gift, however most gifts are disappointing.

New Music
Hopefully you will all love this song as much as I do! It's really sweet& cute. I also noticed a crazy trend with my music ..I obviously love male singers way more than female ones. The only female singer I ever put on here, I ended up retracting my like of her song due to her stupid behavior. Way to go, JG. Ruining female artist's chances of being discovered as the next big thing via my blog. I hope you reform your vulgar tweets because of this consequence. So, for now I will continue my trend of beautiful songs sung by guys :) Enjoy!
Oh, and also ..sorry for the weird video that accompanies this song, but it was the best version I could find of it. I am amazed I could even find it!

Unforseen circumstances

I promised photos of the blog prize. I will not be delivering on that promise tonight. I have completed the autograph part of my prize .. the photo part is dependent on the winner .. the secret& Lick-A-Chick article of clothing have yet to be picked up.

Why, you ask? Well .. the last 2 parts of that were supposed to be picked up before work. Circumstances changed, however, and being the sweet co-worker I am I went into work 30 minutes early for Caelyn, thus preventing my chance to achieve my promise. Isn't the lack of actually SEEING what you're all vying for really building anticipation?!

So, before I give you details+ photos of my awesome adventure today, I will complain about something at work. Certainly not the work I do at work, because I spent most of today photoshopping photos& reading about celebrities that I don't care about. Getting paid for that is basically the most awesome deal ever.
This is about people who talk on their cell phones while interacting with me. It's SO FREAKING RUDE. Ask the person your talking to hold on while you purchase your things or DON'T PURCHASE THEM. Ugh.
If someone is that important that you can't ask them to hold, then perhaps you shouldn't be buying your smokes, lottery tickets and junk food while trying to converse with them?! And if they aren't that important, perhaps you could employ some courtesy& etiquette and behave appropriately. I AM important, I DO deserve your attention& I AM judging you. Oh, and even blogging about you. You know who you, snotty 'Too-good-for-you' jerkface.

Okay, so now! In order to make up for my complete lack of delivering on my first promise .. I have some awesome shots from my adventure today with Barry& Zac! I mean, some of these came out awesome. I'll post a few of my favorites here and a link to the rest of them on my photobucket. I'm going to work on getting some kind of slide show embedded into my posts, but for now ..clicking into my photobucket will have to work. Or else, you could not click and just not see them. Trust me though, these are worth seeing! Hope Chelsea likes them :)

We fought through the bitter cold, wind and the "unwilling to stay completely still& cooperate with us" puppy, aka the star of the show! He's pretty handsome .. so I will forgive him! Plus, I dressed weather appropriate and it was really only my hands& face that nearly got frostbite. Barry was in just a sweater and I'm sure close to hypothermia by the time we finished! So, here is a snapshot of the results. I will let the photos speak for themselves :)

And, before you go ..don't forget to enter my blog contest! The more people that enter, the funner it will be for me. And this is my blog, so let's make my wishes come true! It will take you 1 minute TOPS to comment and enter :)

Accomplished Today..

I survived my foodborne test. Small miracles are abundant! It is FREEZING here in my part of Canada, which always sucks. There's lots of drift ice that doesn't appear to be going anywhere .. the wind is cold& bitter ..bright side?! I survived foodborne. First, I had to survive my school being on fire and standing outside with the girls waiting for the firefighters to let us back in. It was cold and I was not dressed for an extended outdoor adventure. If I had of had my camera (common lament in my world. Constantly saying I'm going to take it everywhere& never following through on it), it would have been a good photo opportunity! I think you can tell where this is going ..no photo of the day from me yet :(

In honor of surviving my adventure to CBU today, I'm sitting here watching Full House and thinking that even though Ashley& Mary-Kate are adults now, I still find them just as cute as when they were little tiny girls! I am watching the episode where Jesse gets married. It's alright and certainly beats what I was doing this time yesterday --studying!

I am also going shopping tonight ..which would be WAY more exciting if we lived somewhere like Halifax or Edmonton. As it stands, I'll shop at Smart Set because I love it there and probably end up not buying much of anything. I really want spring clothes, even though it's -11C out and snowing. It may help put me in the mood for spring, if nothing else! I wish we had a Marc Jacobs& that I could afford it. I'm going to try incredibly hard to buy no jeans. No cardigans (let's be real ..I don't NEED any more cardigans). Some pretty spring tops and lots of trying things on. If I make that a promise now, I will for sure stick to it. Especially if I drag Garret along and make him play fashion police. Why is my boyfriend better at picking out clothes for me than I am?! Oh well, I will reward him with an Orange Julius and he will be more than happy!

Before shopping can begin, however, I must do Insanity. It won't be so bad, assuming I can gather the energy. I am a little wore out from studying for about 14hrs. Not to mention my body is totally over sleep, seeing as I only got 75 minutes worth last night. Oh well .. now I want cake (thanks, wedding episode& Cake Wrecks)! So, on that note .. I will leave you with a fabulous singer since I have no photo for you.
Hope you don't mind ..the artist I'm leaving you with is Sam Means. His song is Yeah, yeah. It's really good! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

So, sorry for a completely rambling post. I am just so excited to have done well on that stupid test. Plus, I'm tired AND hungry AND there is no cake in my house!!

March 22, 2011

Thank you, Tim Hortons!

Apparently, Timmy reads my blog! Today, I went to my last Occ. Hygiene lab (WOOHOO!) and then when I got home, Garret was here! So we hit up Wendys ..he is a BAD influence on me. I blame him for all my poor nutritional decisions. That is easier than owning up to it LOL! The point is, after that we went to Tim Hortons, where a magical transformation occured.

I WON A FREE COFFEE(Tea, in my situation)! Garret lost. Ner-ner-ner-ner-ner-ner .. sucks to be you, boyfriend ;)
How awesome is that?! I am considering framing this photo! Thanks, Timmy .. for both reading my blog& taking prompt action to correct the situation. I feel vindicated! Victory is mineeeeeee :)

Okay.. so aside from that, today is semi-nice out. It's sunny, there's minimal wind, there is still ice in the water though& it's still freezing. So, it's nice that I am not missing a beautiful day today by studying. Life, you could be good. Especially if you make my Friday warm and delightful, since I only have 1 class. I would like it to be warm enough for me to practice driving my motorcycle ..so please, keep your fingers crossed! Today would have been an ideal outdoor photography day, however it is still a little chilly& I am still lazy. So, instead I went to my trusty lightbox and got an indoor photo. What can I say, I'm so not a fan of being cold AT ALL.

So, overall, my day has been pretty non-exciting. I almost got hit by a red Civic in the CBU parking lot, which was fairly exhilarating. I would prefer to not have my car be in an accident, thanks a lot boy in the Civic. Then, I had to park incredibly far away from the school. That lead to walking for to get to my lab .. I ran into Barry& Marg .. I ended up being 5 minutes late for lab. Good start to the last lab ahahah after arriving, it was smooth sailing!

And now I'm home, I've eaten lunch and won a free tea .. Dr. Phil is teaching me how dysfunctional people can be (which is nice. Especially on days you're feeling particularly dysfunction yourself!) and also teaching me how excited I should be that I didn't have a baby as a teen& that I have parents who don't date 18yr olds. Thanks, Mom& Dad! You guys rock :) After my daily life lesson with the good doctor, I will be heading towards opening that file folder named 'Foodborne Test 2' and studying my evening away. I hope that it's not as painful as I am imagining it will be ..argh. Oh well, after all the sleep I got last night, I should be well rested enough for a full night of focusing& learning.

In fact, last night I got SO much sleep I missed 45 minutes of Intervention and ALL of Heavy :( What a disaster. I will be watching them as repeats sometime soon, thankfully! On that note, I'm going to devote my attention to the TV ..so I will leave you with my photo of the day. It's a shoe! A shoe for -scrubbing? Maybe .. it has very soft bristles. It's cute ..wasn't sure which photo to pick, I don't overly love the focus of it after uploading it but, lazy wins once again! I'm not re-taking it ahaha

Hope that you all have a lovely Tuesday afternoon& evening! I also hope that you are not studying for a hateful exam coming up in the near future .. and good luck if you are in the same boat as me!

March 10, 2011

Ugh.

This year for Lent I'm giving up. That post title perfectly describes my day today. Let's start with yesterday though, shall we?

Yesterday I went to my A&P test, came home to see the puppy (who is fine now. Thank goodness he just keeps perking right back up!!), went back to CBU to gym it with Marg. All was going well until I got onto the treadmill for a run. 30 minutes to run 1.89 miles. My foot is SO frigging sore .. it was actually going numb at certain points ahaha so then we went to the Dome and just enjoyed the fake grass and sunlight! After that, I went with the boyfriend to get Orange Julius& Subway. I went to his house and promptly fell asleep until 12.30AM. Oops. Came home, crawled into my own bed and then? Start the 'ugh' day.

I slept in. So I got to lab 15 minutes late. Perfecto. After lab ended, I had about 3hrs to kill before my next lab. I went to the mall, but my foot hurt WAY too much to walk around there so I went to my car and got Burger King. Don't even care. That vanilla shake? To die for. Then I got a tea& had some quiet time with myself. I also, however, spilled the tea all over myself. Along with tea, I had some skittles. I opened them upside down and they all fell on the ground. At this point, I'm wanting to cry. I finish my tea, go to get my favorite gum .. pop it out, wham. Lost forever down my seat. Life, can you get any worse? Oh, yes. Yes you can. I spy with my little eye, something that is a pink packet of bubblegum flavored Extra gum!! I proceed to get WAY too excited .. pull out the pack anddddd .... it's empty. I quit at life. Went to lab, nothing too unfortunate happened there because I only had to sit and listen. After lab, I went to hit golf balls with Marg. It resulted in me missing the ball a lot .. hurting my foot by over rotating it .. and lastly, we went up to the gym. Where I promptly dropped the bosu ball on my foot :) So then driving home, I hit a MASSIVE pothole ..what the hell, Nova Scotia?! Now I'm home. I had my pizza (thanks, Mom!) and am ready to just do nothing all evening. Thank god for tonight .. I am planning on stealing Mom's bag of candy corn& chocolate sprinkle candies and just watching some Criminal Minds / Law& Order! The other downside to today& yesterday? THE WEATHER. Good lord. It is C- O- L- D out there! And gas is expensive, it is also going up tomorrow. I also NEED gas .. this is a dilemma because I HATE pumping gas in the cold. More than almost anything .. except eyes& hills.

The good things in my world? Here we go:
1. Mom returned my pants to Tommy& got me the right sizes (thanks again, Mom!)
2. She also bought me my favorite makeup (Benefit ..basically Halifax only. What the hell, Cape Breton? Stock more of it please.)
3. I let my eyebrows get gross in order to re-shape them. This could have gone either way ..but I waited patiently, plucked with caution& ended up with great eyebrows. Thank you, eyebrow kit for your stencils. Thank you, myself for your patience and skill with the Tweezerman!
4. I DO NOT have a coldsore. Knock on wood.

Now, what's left?! Oh yes, today and yesterday's photos. I don't have one for today yet, so you'll just have to patiently wait for that. Sorry, folks. If I just end up laying around my house all night, I will definitely edit this post to include the one for today :)
So here is Margy ..she always looks so stunning. Jealoussss. Perhaps I'll take my own photo today to compare LOL!

Alright, so today's photo has been taken and clearly, slightly edited. This is because I like photoshop. Suck it up and deal if you don't. I especially like my neck muscles in this one. Yum. Clavicles too!

PS another artist you all should listen to that you have probably never heard of? Nick Driver! Really, any of the artists on rotation on XM Coffeehouse .. however, I will start you with Mr. Driver - Let's Stay Together :) I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
