Heat in July!

For most people the July heat comes from the air and the fact that's it the middle of the summer. Well, for people who live on this island? The heat in July comes from our car heaters because we certainly had them on today!! Yup. That is the weather here .. so we froze our little tushies off at the barns today.

I spent the day playing photographer for a lesson& actually managed to get my photos uploaded& edited much quicker than usual .. I'm getting good at this productivity thing (as long as I do it at ungodly hours ..1.27AM)! So I don't have much of interest to write except to say that my leaning forward while riding?! FIXED. Wish I had some photos but I promise to get some in the near future. Until then, enjoy some photos from last week& today :) How was your Wednesday?!

This horse is gorgeous.
I am going to learn to drive a cart someday.

A girl at my barn.
Just a few quick shots!

He looks a million times better these days!

I wish it was me riding him here.
I could always photoshop my head I guess ;)

Last one!
Hope you enjoyed them .. I enjoyed taking them!

Okay so now that I've flooded you with photos can I just say that I also have a potentially new feature coming to the blog. Honestly .. it's going to appeal to anyone here who loves horses. A friend who rides and shows stunning dressage horses is considering doing posts for my blog! Not only does she have some awesome riding skills she is an amazing photographer so there will also be some eye candy for you folks. I'm super excited and hope she really decides to go through with starting up a section on here :) Keep your eyes peeled for news on that.

PS this is probably one of the most random blogs on the entire internet. Do you think I need some kind of theme or is completely random blogging topics working for us?! Hahah

Sunny Monday!

Yes, folks .. the sun is shining! It is still very cold out there though, so it's not a completely spring day. Mittens& big coats are still a must if you're going to be outside for any length of time :( Oh well, cold& sunny is better than cold& rainy / snowy / cloudy.

Freakonomics
Last night, Momma& I curled up with the Mac to watched this movie. It was pretty good! It talked about parenting ..incentives ..crime rates ..choosing names &lots of cool information. Neat to see it from an economists view. I had always assumed they did nothing of interest for me, but I was wrong! I would definitely encourage watching it! We also had some peanut butter cups. YUM. Although, make sure you take off the wrappers first. Oops.

Eyebrows
So, this is an issue I've had forever. Probably because I weirdly notice eyebrows more than anyone else. I love good eyebrows and hate bad ones. I rotate between good& bad myself, so I'm not judging. It's hard to stay on top of those pesky things when you're busy. For a long time, I had really. bad. brows. I have conquered this. You should too. My main topic is this trend of over plucking. It started a long, long time ago back when I was a wee tenth grader. I noticed it then and am slowly re-noticing it. I really hope it isn't planning on taking over the world again :| Here is an example (cropped to protect the poor person who doesn't have strict enough facebook privacy settings):
Perpetual surprise?!
Please. Avoid this look at all costs. Thank you.

Weddings
So, all kinds of people all around me are either popping the question or saying yes to it. My mother is constantly amused by my aversion to all things wedding-related. Is anyone else in this age group (20 - 29) also amazed by the fact that people all around you (maybe even you) are growing up into adults?! Well this fact is one thing that always shocks me when my friends are tying the knot (ps, congrats all you guys!), there is another thing besides the sheer adult-like behavior. What, you ask?
THE PLANNING! Oh. my. god. It seems like it would be time consuming, exhausting and so not worth the energy& money. All of that effort for one day? Wowza. So, since my wedding would be so much different from a conventional wedding, I decided to show you guys how I would want mine to go. Don't get me wrong, I do want to get married. I would just prefer it not cost an arm& leg, involve lots of people looking at me and a lot of my time.

My wedding
So, here are the things that MY (because let us never forget, this blog is all about me!) wedding need:
1. A beautiful ring. Preferably from here. Nothing traditional. No plain white diamond for me. I like color!

2. Beautiful photos. I love beautiful photos (in case you couldn't tell) and I want some. Although I want them to be fun and funky. And not in a dress ..because I don't ever plan on wearing a white dress. Again, the whole color thing.

3. Elope. Yes, that is correct. I want to plan nothing. I'd love to wake up one morning ..get engaged ..get married a week or so later. I'm simple. I want to get married in skinny jeans& a cardigan. We can do photos another time. I don't need presents or money .. I don't need people to throw me all kinds of showers / parties. Which reminds me ..

Bachelor Parties
..you haven't been single since WELL before this party. Hence, my complete lack of understanding of these things. If someone can explain them to me, I'm willing to listen& try to understand. Overall, I think they are incredibly dumb, stupid and people who want them thrown tend to be obnoxious and overbearing. Sorry if that's you. This is a major pet peeve. And those stupid slogans:
My time to mingle, as it's my last night single
Last fling, before the ring
One more night lets do it right

And others. Oh god, just kill me. So, moral of the story -I want to get married. I just want to elope with a beautiful ring, beautiful photo memories& someone who loves me lots! Since those are the only things that last longer than the days, anyway.

Photo of the Day
Okay, so longest post ever maybe? Sorry. I just had to get the eyebrow& wedding things out. Wedding turned into a rant, for which I apologize. I think it's all funny though. On that note, here is my photo of the day. It's jesus (I think?).

I hope you enjoy my day 60 photos. It's from yesterday. Perhaps later tonight, I will update with my photo from today :) Enjoy your Monday ..it could be worse, since it's almost over now!

Today I..

Fill in the blank people! How did you spend your day?! I spent it going to two labs. The first one involved an exam I bombed and the second one involved standing outside for 40 minutes while freezing to a slow, slow death. I was home by 3.20PM. I am STILL cold and it's well over 3 hours later. I am snuggled up with a cup of tea, university platform diving and lots of layers! I wish Cape Breton would catch up with the seasons and turn itself into spring .. my shopping trip last night was a bust. I can't shop for spring things when I'm this cold!

So, what is on my plate for the remainder of the evening you ask? Well, I figured I'd take full advantage of my completely being alone and enjoy an evening for myself. This will include the following:
1. Long, hot bath
2. Beautiful blue drink
3. Painting my toes a spring color (I'll incorporate this season somehow. Even if I can't wear it's clothes!)
4. Uploading, editing& posting my photos on here
5. Curling up with a good book& popcorn
6. Bed early (here's hoping)

So for now, I'm deciding how to start my evening of being 100% unproductive. I'm torn between continuing to sit here for a little while longer or starting to run the bath. It really depends on how my motivation goes after finishing this post.

Until I decide, I'll let you in on my favorite part of last night: ice cream from the Tasty Treat. Garret and I split a Blizzard with Oreo crumbs! It was definitely a little chilly (it may or may not have been snowing) but it was still sort of fun to sit in the Jeep& split a delicious summertime treat. If it can't be spring, we may as well have fun pretending it is! While wearing our Ugg boots, winter coats, scarves& mittens, just in case we have to go outside ;)

Oh, also while we were doing our little air quality field trip, I was reminded of something very important. We all must be tolerant. I had this thought while trying very hard not to strangle certain people on our field trip. My first thought was 'You are so very, very bizzare'. Which was immediately followed by my second thought 'Try not to judge. Be tolerant'. My second thought failed. I tried .. and then I tried thinking of things that could increase my tolerance.

It hit me like a lightning bolt. I don't know how I've lived all these years and never consciously thought of it. Tolerance is most achievable when there is nobody around to tolerate! Wow. I'm brilliant ..practically the next Dalai Lama. It was an incredibly profound moment in my life. The only sad part was that I had such a moment while standing in an ambient air quality station while freezing cold and wearing alpaca mittens. Actually, the mittens were probably the highlight of that moment.
When I write my book, I'm going to make this moment more wonderful. It's going to involve me actually starting to live out my lack of tolerance by starting to strangle said persons but having the epiphany at exactly the critical moment! I can see it all now .. or maybe, I should just get a movie deal from my blog. Then I could pick someone totally awesome to play me. Except I'm not really good with celebrities, so that would be hard.

Okay, I'm done. The moral of the story is tolerance is easy. When there is no one around that you have to tolerate. So surround yourself with people that you don't want to strangle as often as you can. Oh, and I just learned another lesson:
Always dress like you're about to have a brilliant thought. Then you won't have to lie about it later when you're penning your personal book! I am sure glad Karli lent me those mittens ..I'll just focus on them.

So now I'm off to lock my doors (I don't want anyone to kill me while I'm relaxing) and enjoy a relaxing bath. I might even light candles to go with my beautiful blue drink. I will be back later to post my photos for today and yesterday!

Until then, enjoy your Thursday evening and I hope it is incredibly relaxing and warm :) I also hope it's filled with things you love, because everyone can use a pick-me-up from time to time!
Oh, I almost forgot to post a favorite song. This will most definitely help put you in a better mood ..unless you're going through a really depressing breakup or divorce. In which case, I'd probably skip it and go for something a little less filled with love. Like Nine Inch Nails. If you aren't heartbroken though, here is Brett Dennen -Love You the Most :)

Windy Wednesdays

They suck. At least they both start with a 'W' though, so I sound clever for putting them together! Currently, I am laying on my boyfriends bed and that is my excuse for why my photo of the day will not be posted until tomorrow. I have it on my camera, but Garret doesn't have 2 things:
1. A camera cord for me to upload that isn't out in my cold car (aka it's here, but I'm lazy!)
2. Photoshop for that post-processing look that actually makes it seem like I know what I'm doing when I'm using my camera!

With both of those obstacles standing firmly in my way of uploading a decent photo (and let's be honest, I need one after yesterdays pathetic attempt), I have decided to just treat everyone to a double dose of photo of the day tomorrow! So, how did I spend my Wednesday?

I spent it surviving my foodborne midterm (thank you, test gods. Someday I will produce a statue in your honor!) and then surviving occupational hygiene and foodborne lab. Then it was time to leave, so I got Garret and we went to hang out with my puppy for a bit and then for a trip to Walmart because we are super classy! Today was a sad day, today I mourned the loss of P90X as he finally asked for it back. Thank you, Tony, for many good months spent together. Let us all have a moment of silence in remembrance of when I was in shape.

Okay, now that we have properly mourned my workout program, let me just say that I'm trying to move on. We went to Walmart for 2 reasons, one was more important than the other. The first reason was so that we could get windshield wash for my poor Civic (we did. YAY! No more driving really close behind cars as they go through puddles!) and the more important reason was to check out Insanity. I decided to wait on it and actually do some research before purchasing it (Mom, be proud), however, I will most likely own it before the week is out. When I want something, I just want it. Frig waiting. I've waiting 23 years, if you include the years I didn't know about / want it. I will be sad to see the days of P90X leaving me, but excited to move on to the world of a new personal trainer on my TV. Hopefully he will have even 1/3 the personality of Tony. I will also provide a full review upon purchasing and completing a workout or two.

So, after leaving Walmart, I tricked Garret into going to see some puppies at Brett's Pet Depot. There were not many puppies I wanted to take home, however there was another dachshund pup there. He was not nearly as cute as Walter (long story .. we didn't ever own him. Just loved him like he was ours ahaha), but he was soooo long. And the best part about these puppies? GARRET ACTUALLY LIKES THEM! There is hope someday I'll have a puppy with him ahahaha until then, I will placate myself with just going to puppy stores and pretending like I'm am actually there to purchase one. Secretly, I'm just there to soak up some puppy love and attention.

After puppies, we decided to get a movie. We got The American. George Clooney is in it. He is handsome, but not so much in this movie. This movie sucked. It was in another language a lot and the captions were REALLY tiny. I could barely read them, and I even have glasses now!! The important part about our trip to Blockbuster was that we spent $6 on those stupid voodoo dolls that are there when you're exiting the store. I put my toonie in and got a stupid red voodoo doll in a cape (wtf.). So then, after that we didn't have any more toonies and so he was like 'Throw in a loony.' Yeah. Like that will work. Guess what? It worked. We ripped that mother off and got THREE MORE voodoo dolls (it was a moment. Don't judge. Photos coming tomorrow.) for only $3!! I encourage everyone to go buy some. If you happen to get the black doll, I'll trade you for the shitty one with a cape. Let me know.

Until then, I'm sorry I'm leaving this (extremely long winded) post without a photo for your viewing pleasure. Instead, I will leave you with a photo of our new favorite passtime. In honor of actually finding this photo, starting tomorrow I will start updating our collection. I plan to have them ALL before long. Hell, they're half price from here on out!

January 31, 2011

I actually hate titles so much I forgot to give this post one!

Soo today is a Monday. If I were a celebrity and someone else was writing this blog about me, I bet the post would be immensely more entertaining than the one you're about to read. If I were a celebrity, I would have attended the SAG awards last night, perhaps won something or worn something truly righteous. Instead, I didn't do any of that so thumbs up for sticking with me .. especially to my one follower;)
Monday Monday Monday .. today I had a great day. I went to my classes and they were thrilling. Foodborne was once again the highlight of the day, with a fantastic discussion on explosive diarrhea. So thanks for that, Bernie. Along with the explosive diarrhea, although completely unrelated I assure you, was a photo of 2 people from the society serving food and being bad examples of it and then the next slide? A photo of me ..doing yoga. What up, warrior 1 pose? So delightful to see yourself looking foolish up on the screen ahha Bernie is just lucky that I have a sense of humor!

Next was the gym. Where I ran 5k and then worked on my next project: bosu ball. It is my mission to bring this thing to popularity and when I get a big following / book deal, it will be awesome to see that happen. Hahaha so this is what I did this afternoon:
1. 10 lunges per side
2. Hop up, squat twice, hop down. 10 times.
3. Running on the bosu ball (hard to explain, but amazing for increasing speed for runs.) 2x25
4. Hop on, hop off to the other side, turn and repeat. 15 times
5. Situps on the ball, 15 times.

Was so much fun .. I'm going to make a list tonight and make sure to bring it tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the 2 girls also in the room with me thought I was completely mental, but I can't even be bothered caring. I LOVE these things and I am in way better shape than them anyway ;)

Next on the agenda was a visit to the barns, where I chatted with Patricia and Valerie and a girl named Emily. It was nice to see some familiar faces (both horse and people) but crazy how much changeover that place has seen! I stayed for about 90 minutes and then all feeling in my limbs, and especially toes, had left me so it was time to pack up and go home. Once I got home, I had a delicious chicken breast and some rice ..followed by a healthy bag of popcorn. Also to be eaten this fine evening: yogurt, strawberries, a large cup of tea to warm me up and perhaps some crackers and peanut butter? I like to eat ..sue me.

Also, I will spend the better part of the evening reading over my notes for anatomy& physiology while wishing for the snowstorm to actually arrive on Wednesday. Which will create yet another storm day and I will rejoice. For now, it's -20 out and that is very cold. Meaning the rejoicing is minimal and mostly centered around the fact that I am not at work right now and am instead curled up in my bed in pajamas! Now, if only that cup of tea would magically appear in my hand ..hmm
