Exhibition

So I know a few people are curious about the exhibition. Basically, it's a giant mish-mash of circus rides, fair games, horse shows& agriculture events along with some delicious circus treats (cotton candy, candy apples, popcorn, etc)! So it really doesn't get any better than that. It usually rains every. single. day. but this year was different- we had sun. Small miracles do happen. I took some photos for you guys so you could experience it :) I missed a few great shots (think sheep being sheared) but managed to get some pretty cool ones.

Giant draft horse. I'm 5'8.
His name is Bud& he's sweet as pie!

There are tons of heavy horses& they pull 2, 4, 6& 8-horse hitches. It is pretty awesome to see but, of course, I didn't manage to really get any great shots of it. Just a few of me hanging out with Bud to show you how massive he really is! Crazy, eh? Alongside the horses, there are tons of other animals there. Like cows, goats, sheep, donkeys& PIGS! There was a giant pig who had piglets there (12 of them!) and the guy let me hold on. I have a photo, but first? The photo of her reward for being a good momma& letting strangers handle her babies.

Yup. That's a pig.
Eating an ice cream cone. NBD.

The best part of the exhibition, though? The food. Seriously. It is the one place where you can eat like a pig& have the calories not count and not even feel remotely guilty! There are delicious chip trucks, junk food, corn, pizza& all kinds of goodies like fudge& ice cream. It's basically impossible to not want to eat everything you smell and see around there. Trust me, I tried.

Caramel apple.
$4 ...better be delicious!

There was also a giant display of snakes and other gross creatures. My mom is so sad she missed out on that this year! One snake was a 14ft boa constrictor who eats 16lbs of rabbit meat however often snakes eat. Which is a lot, apparently, because they told me to remove Squirt from the area. He weighs 5lbs. I didn't need to be told twice. Then there was so strange kid with a corn snake who was just chillin' who let me take his photo. Thanks, kid!

Cool, eh?
Not so much for me.

As I'm writing this post, I'm realizing I have a crazy amount of photos from the exhibition. For example, as I scroll through them I'm noticing I do, in fact, have a photo of the 8-horse hitch that occurred! It is kind of crappy but gives you a good example of just how cool the heavy horses are ..so I'll throw it on here anyway.

Now this is better.
Frig playing around with snakes!

The games at the fair are really fun. One, in particular, is very close to my heart. It's called The Color Game ..okay, it might not really be called that. In fact, I don't think it has a name. Everyone plays it underage and it's the best game ever for gambling. It used to be funner when you'd throw the ball into a spinning color wheel. Now it's just a wheel the carnie spins. Oh well, I still love it.

Cool, eh?
Very retro-chic ..or something.

You win money. I won $10. Garret lost $10. I'm way better at that game than he is. I've been playing it way longer than him and Lady Luck likes me more :) Garret, however, is very good at games that actually require a skill. So, on his first try, he won me a cute little knock-off of a My Little Pony! So much fun.

Thanks, boyfriend!
Photos of pony+ Squirt coming soon ;)

Okay. This post is psychotically long so before I go, I'll leave you with one last photo and just have to let the rest of Exhibition be left to your imaginations ;) I know you guys MUST be sick of reading about& looking at photos of this event by now. Mostly, I was just trying to show how varied& fun this one week in August is. Last photo is a tug-of-war between 10 guys and a tractor. Seriously. This is how we spend our time ..there was also a hay toss and other things that would make you scratch your head (unless you're from a town like mine)! So, does your town have anything like this? Or are you officially thinking you need to visit Cape Breton while this event is going on to see what's it like in real life?!

Playing catch up

Sorry guys. Blogging at HalfPastWonderful is officially back to regular starting now! The exhibition was fabulous .. I took lots of photos for my post tomorrow to show you guys just what it was that sucked me away from blogging. It also was fabulous weather allll week& looks like it's continuing based on the fact that today is gorgeous& sunny!

So today's post will be quick and involve Friday Snaps& Two-Faced Tuesday! I'm so sorry these didn't make it up as regularly scheduled ..I wasn't home long enough to upload& edit all week! So to start with, here is my latest installment of Two-faced Tuesday [100 Strangers Project]

Isn't this cute?
Sweet step dancing!

So this is a girl who step dances. I actually asked her her name& now, of course, I forget it. Two-faced Tuesday may have to start including some kind of note taking for situations like this. She is in grade 11 and goes to the local high school. She danced to Avril Lavigne and everybody loved her! Seriously, she was completely fabulous. She has been dancing since she was 6 and it showed. Everyone was talking about her around the exhibition and the crowd watching them was crazy! Along with her, there were also some cute little kiddie highland dancers who were adorable. Something about little kids& plaid is just hard to beat. The little kids danced to the Highland Fling ..so cute!

So, now that Two-faced Tuesday is out of the way? Up next is Friday Snaps[3]! I'm only 2 days late on this one so that's sort of a perk .. here is my shot& it sums up my weekend fabulously! It's seriously what I spent ALL week doing. Can you guess?

..it's a photo of the exhibition! Well, more specifically, it's a photo of the Zipper. 'Why the Zipper?' is a question you're probably not asking yourself but I'm going to answer it anyway. When I was a young little sweet girl at the tender age of 3, my mother somehow convinced the carnies to let me on the ride. I'm not sure how, seeing as I am sure I didn't meet the height requirements ..my mom is a very persuasive and I was very cute with my blonde curls. So off we went to ride the Zipper. Mom had to keep her hand on the top of my head so I wouldn't bounce completely off the seat! Then ..one of my shoes fell off and she couldn't catch it so it was flying around inside the little compartment we were in until she got it. Thank goodness Mom is good at multitasking! We survived and, surprise surprise, I wanted to go right back on it. I couldn't though, because at this point the person who let me on the ride was gone& there was a meaner guy who wouldn't fall for my sweet curls. Sad day.

So now that you know that sweet little memory from my much younger days, here is the photo:

I was a tough 3yr old.
Would YOU ride this ride?!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to ride it this year. Not because I'm a pansy but because all of my friends who went to the exhibition with me refused to get on any rides! They claimed motion sickness comes with age. I was going to go on a few rides with my cousin, but I couldn't find him so instead I spent my entire ex week without riding any rides! Oh well, ate enough cotton candy to make up for lack of rides! So there. I'm officially caught up. Congratulations if you're still with me& read all this!

La Quaintrelle

Hey, folks :) Exhibition has been a blast. I've got a full explanation of what it is exactly along with some great photos in the near future for you guys! Also, I've officially ridden one of the 4 Haflingers :D She was fabulous and quiet as could be. The photos are on Crystal's camera though so it may be awhile before you get to see them. I'm going to ride again tomorrow AM so I'll try to remember to bring along the dSLR, or at least my memory card.

This post, however, isn't about any of that. It is about something awesome! Does anyone remember my blogging friend, Meghan (I'd link to it but apparently she made it private and I can't read it so neither can any of you aha)? Well she had a blog called La Vie Quaintrelle. She hasn't blogged in months but she had a good reason ...she was busy setting up her very own shop! Isn't that exciting?

La Quaintrelle main page.
You're interested already, aren't you?

It features dresses and vintage accessories so far and is pretty awesome looking, if I do say so myself. You guys should head on over and see if anything in her pretty little store catches your eye. Her description reads:
La Quaintrelle is a smart and chic clothing boutique for the modern woman. Vintage-inspired, indie & one-of-a-kind pieces.

So, basically if you are a modern woman who wants to be seen as smart& chic, it would be imperative you check out her site& continue to check back because she's just getting this site launched ..meaning there's lots more goodies to come your way! I hope you guys check her out. You can even like her facebook page and show her some support! While you're at it, like my page too ;D

Seriously, folks!
Check this lady& her shop out.

So this is my quick little update from me to you. I promise I will return with some great photos of what the exhibition is all about and why I am spending so much time there that I've even put blogging off the table for this week. On the upside, it only comes once a year and next year I won't also trying to be fitting in teaching 4 Haflingers some manners. Hopefully they'll all have them by then!! Oh another reason for lack of blogging? Gorgeous weather! The island finally realized what time of year it is& sent us some sunshine!

Expect delays

Yes, expect delays! A post today didn't happen. I was reading a book, eating some BBQ and then heading to the exhibition. It's 12.37AM (so I guess really, a post yesterday didn't happen) and I am just getting in. I am also exhausted.

Never fear though ..I have a Two-faced Tuesday shot and, because I'm a quick learner, I even have a Friday Snap! I am, however, also on the Mac. Which isn't my laptop. And therefore doesn't have editing software. So my photos are staying on my camera for now. Tomorrow starts Crystal's vacation+ is her birthday so things may stay slow around here until Sunday morning. Sorry, folks! Exhibition only comes once a year and the weather is even nice for this years.

Sorry for my incredibly boring post .. it doesn't even include any photos. What a waste, I know but I figured I'd explain my lack of being around here and lack of commenting on your folks blogs!

XO enjoy your week :)

Oh no..

Cape Breton has returned to it's previously scheduled weather. It's cloudy& overcast here today and not really warm at all. Anyone who knows anything about this place, though, knows that every time the exhibition rolls into town so does the bad weather! Yup .. it has been this way for years and years.

Speaking of the exhibition, I hope someone will come walk around with me this evening seeing as I have to grab some photos of a stranger in order to do installment #2 of 100 Strangers! I have been repeating to myself all day 'Must ask stranger for photo. Must ask stranger for photo.' and thinking I need a business card to hand to them so they can get their photo when it's posted. LOL! Just kidding on the last part. Mostly I'm just hoping I can get a shot for tomorrow ..keep your fingers crossed for me!

I may just say frig it& go up myself with my camera. Nothing says creeptastic like walking around alone with a giant camera& taking photos of random people ..amiright?! It could be fun. Maybe I'll even take the puppers and get a giant bag of cotton candy. Okay this is quickly sounding like a really good idea. Now, if only the rain will hold off! So aside from my excitement over the exhibition.. I snapped a few quick photos of a dinky that Mom bought the other day.

Why is my mom buying dinkies when there is no one in the house under the age of 19? Because she loves them! She was looking for a Mini but, sadly, there were none. So instead she settled for a cute little purple car!

It's pretty cute. I have a soft spot in my heart for miniature things so of course, I love dinkies. It's also why I love VW Beetles, Mini Coopers, Miatas& Crossfires. They are small sized real life cars! I cannot wait until the boyfriend finished the VW he's been working on for foreverrr! Until then I'll content myself with taking photos of toy cars when the inspiration strikes.

Enjoy your Monday :D
