Mr. Winter

I don't like winter. In fact, I prefer to pretend that it just isn't happening. I wear autumn clothes for as long as possible, refuse to put snow tires on my car until the ground is buried in snow and look at places in the world who escape the tragedies of winter. Today it is bitter out! I mean I had plans to take a photo of my dog outside ..until I actually stepped outside. No thanks. I think we'll wait until the spring (or at least a mild winter day) has returned instead! I am looking forward to that.

My photo of the dog was going to be one with him floating away. Now, I have to ask you guys a question. My household is obsessed with 2 things- Bubble Witch Saga& levitation photos. Are you guys okay with being flooded with photos of people/ things floating away? I'm thinking of doing at least one a week as long as people aren't groaning over more of them. I think they are absolutely the coolest things ever but I recognize not everyone shares my awesome tastes ;) I would hate to drive you away from reading because you're bored of watching people in the air. I promise there will be lots of variation on them!

Okay, so now that my question period is out of the way, I guess I should show you guys the photo I opted to post instead of a levitating one (because yes, even though I didn't do one of the dog, I do have others that I haven't posted here for fear of driving you all away)! I took my mom's glass coffee cup& filled it 1/3 of the way with liquor flavored Jelly Bellies because I'm not very creative but also because I really didn't want to go outdoors. I am the queen of lazy!

I love this cup. It is so much fun ..the next time it is filled with coffee, I'll get a better snapshot of it. Something about the floating effect ;) I hope everyone is having as enjoyable of a Monday as possible! I am curled up on the couch watching Ellen (who still isn't subscribed to my blog ..come on, Ellen. What else can I do)& waiting for Mom to bring home the rice so I can eat. All I've had all day was 3 little pieces of chocolate. I would eat my dog if only I didn't have so many photos planned that require him being in them! How about you?

Buggy rides

Yup. Today I went for a ride in a Buggy. Not the kind that a horse pulls though but rather the kind the boyfriend builds :D Remember it? He finished it just in time to put it away for the winter but first we decided we needed to take some photos& go for a ride since I haven't been in it yet! I didn't even have the proper clothes on to bundle up in so I was rather cold by the end but it was sooo worth it! I absolutely love this vehicle. Probably the best thing he's ever built!

Doesn't that just look so cool& bad ass? When we cruise around in this next summer, everyone is going to be jealous! I was sort of jealous of myself when I was sitting in it. It is a blast. I am now even less patiently waiting for winter& spring to end ..bring on the summer! I want to be able to ride in the buggy without having to wear mittens, boots, earmuffs& a winter coat. I'm thinking cut off shorts& tank tops. Ahh, summer. I miss you already. Especially now that I just spent about 5 minutes dreaming of sunshine on my face& leaves on trees. For good measure, here is what I looked like while cruising around in the vehicle this morning-

Obviously, cold& ill prepared for a mid-November ride in a car with no heater or roof!! I clearly need to remember to bring some more winter attire the next time I am going with the boyfriend. Bring it on, winter. I'm ready for you (to be over..)! Also, notice how well the Polysporin patches worked?! I have one on in this photo& you'd never even know I had a cold sore whereas normally it would be the very first thing you would have seen. Thanks, Polysporin!

I hope everyone is having a delightful Sunday afternoon. I know mine started out pretty good& soon I'm heading off to ride some ponies so I'm pretty sure it's only looking up from here on out! The sun is out& it is semi-mild so I am trying my best not to complain :)

Not wordless

...but almost! I don't really have much worth saying today other than I woke up early in order to drive my dad to the airport. It was cold& there was frost on my car. Hello, winter. Nice to have you visiting my fine little island again. I hope this visit is short& mild.

Since winter is here, most of my photos from here on out will be of indoor activities. I hate the cold weather& prefer to avoid it all costs! You'll be getting lots of light box photos& whatever else I fill my wintery days with. For now, I'll show you a photo I took the night the boyfriend& I went to play some pool. We played 5 games& he won 3-2. I am slowly getting better& I loveee it! Plus, pool is an indoor sport which is always a plus when the temperature drops!

I totally improvised with this shot. The pool hall has typical, sketchy pool hall lighting. That means that I either had to jack up the ISO or pray my hands were steady for 1/13 of a  second. "IMPOSSIBLE!" I shouted and proceeded to use the pool table as my makeshift tripod. It appears to have worked pretty decently! No camera shake there baby :)

I got the bluesss

Okay, I don't really have the blues. But I do have the song from the Kraft Dinner commercial stuck in my head ..which will make me sad if it stays in there much longer! Oh, and I have to break it to you guys which Fossil case was my first. I didn't forget, I just want to get to these photos from yesterday :)

The weather is officially turning to winter on my little island ..our days have been cold& there's been snow. We also had a little bit of an ice storm one evening so that was awesome. I woke up to about 1.5 inches of ice on my car with no ice scraper& needing to leave the boyfriend's ASAP to get to work. I had to dig through his garage but I found one& made it! I am so good at life survival skills!

Then yesterday was a little more pleasant, we had some sunshine& in the photos I'm about to show you, you might believe it was even a little warm. Well- it wasn't& my nearly hypothermic fingers can attest to that! The kids were troopers ..I never would have survived this photo shoot without complaints! They deserve gold stars of recognition. So now onto some of the photos :)

A boy& his horse! His mom wanted photos of the siblings with their horse since they are selling him this winter. It is sad when people outgrow their mounts but it happens& this horse is so sweet& well-behaved that he is definitely going to be perfect for a little child to learn the ropes on! This horse has personality plus .. he is such a character. I love him. Both kids absolutely adore him- you can tell from the looks on their faces! And the horse is just so quiet! They could do anything with him. As someone who spends my days riding not-so-quiet horses, I can attest to what a major plus that is!

Linked at-

So they each had a photo shoot with the pony separately& then together! They hoped up bareback on him, walk/trot& the horse never batted an eye. Which was great because it worked out perfect for the photos! I don't think they would have been nearly as cute if the horse was running around madly& the kiddies were falling off in a heap on the dirt ;)

I threw up a preview of a few photos on my facebook& they seemed more than pleased with them so that is a huge relief! People leave out one of the negatives to being a new photographer (or maybe it never leaves) - the stress of wondering if the people you're shooting will like the results!! The kids mom told me she loved them all so far& had no idea which ones she was going to print& frame so I'm taking that as a positive sign!

You know I couldn't leave you without a black& white photo! Love this one. The horse looks so happy ..can I just say it was sooo easy to get him to perk his ears that I think every horse needs to take some modeling lessons from him! They were great to work with& my fingers recovered from the crazy cold so I'd call it a successful venture overall :)

Happy Monday everyone!

Sunday Adventures 2 ..

Okay, photo of the day is taken! Thank goodness the pressure is off for that. Now, all I have to do is mention two more things before you get to see it :)

1. My blog contest -Enter people! Enter ..even if you don't want to comment, you can retweet / facebook / blog it :) It's super easy and awesome. Not to mention the fact that you could get something free out of it! This is always a selling point for me, seeing as I love all things when they are free. Regardless of how silly or, like in this case, awesome they may be! Plus it will be a hilarious story!

2. Spring Trends -Much different in Cape Breton than the rest of the world apparently! Today at work some of the highlights of spring clothing were:

Men
A. Cropped bleached jean shorts that are slightly too big leading to my view of your gray underroos that are stained with some black substance. Also, to match? A lovely stained gray t-shirt, white socks and sneakers.

B. Button-up shirts that are about to pop because they are 3 sizes too small over giant beer bellies! Along with pants that are straight from ...I don't even know. They were awful though.

C. Hats used as an attempt to cover up whatever the hell you think you're growing on top of your head. I'm pretty sure it's either not hair, or it started out that way but took on a life of its own because you stopped paying attention to it.

D. Very fancy pea coat with a fancy polo on underneath. This guy looked stylin' until ...I got up to ring him through and? Awful gray sweatpants that were easily 6 sizes too big for him that he pulled up about 6 times from being rung in until receiving his change.

Women
A. Shorts. That's it. WHO WEARS SHORTS WHEN IT'S SNOWING OUTSIDE?!

B. Overweight woman who came in with a tshirt, an oversize mens' sweater AND a puffy jacket. Also sporting wayyyy too baggy jeans and flip flops. Can you say 'Gave up'?!

C. A teen in a skirt so short that she was constantly pulling at it .. along with a tube top and bra straps (gross) and high heels. At 10AM. Why does this scream 'I didn't go home last night' to me? Also, it makes me wonder where her parents are and why they are letting her traipse around in such clothes?!

D. Tights as pants (Topic 2). I repeat - THIS. IS. NOT. A. GOOD. LOOK. FOR. ANYONE. Stop trying to make it be.

Now, onto my photo of the day! It is cool .. it's Easter eggs. Prepare for a lot of Easter-y things from now until the event because this is easily my favorite holiday. It ties with my birthday as my most beloved event. Now, if only Easter could possibly fall ON my birthday, I'd be the happiest girl in the world. While likely to never happen, dream big! These Easter eggs are even better than the kind that come from chickens, ostriches or emus! Why? They are made of chocolate :) And they are wrapped in beautiful colors. Can't get any better than that. So, here they are:

*Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE my light box?!

March 01, 2011

Happy March!

I meant to post last night .. and then I had to watch Easy A (ps, everyone should also watch this. So brilliantly funny and relevant ahahaha) with Mom. After that, I had to make myself supper and shower in order to get to the boyfriend's house to eat treats and watch people lose weight (Heavy) and get over addictions (Intervention). It was delightful .. but it left me forgetting to update the world on my life!! I know, the disappointment was almost unbearable. The drive over was sooo long ..I hate, hate, hate SNOW. Bright side?!

I GOT TO PLOW THIS MORNING! We got in the Jeep and really, Garret did most of the driving. I, however, moved the plow up and down via the switch! It was really fun .. and then we got tea. And also went to my house to pick up my gym clothes so that I could go to the gym with Margy after my lab. The lab consisted of going to the Pit to check VOC (volatile organic compound) levels .. wearing some PPE (personal protective equipment) .. and checking out what PPE is needed when working with certain chemicals. It was actually kind of fun. Except the part where my head was too tiny to fit any of the masks. We got to spray this delicious tasting mist into our faces to see if we could taste it .. if we could, it meant ill fitting equipment. We could. It was delicious though so we didn't really mind. Had it of been disgusting, I would have been a sadder / grosser experience.

At the gym, I pounded out 4 miles and did an ab workout. After surviving that, I headed to Orange Julius with Marg. They made my smoothie wrong AND I forgot my wallet so I had to scrounge money from Marg. Sorry, promise to pay you back tomorrow when I find my wallet! You're a real doll :) At home, I enjoyed some corn, sweet& sour chicken &mashed potatoes. Delicious. Then a chocolate chip cookie .. some Ritz with cheese .. and a milk and now water. Yum. I may have to break out the popcorn in a little bit, I'm craving snacks!

Basically, today nothing overly exciting has happened and mostly I'm exhausted and still have to pound out QPM and foodborne assignments. Wah wah wah. I am truly wishing I could nap and magically have them done when I wake up. Dream big. I'm currently watching Big Bang and being giddy because some people have randomly picked up my blog and started posting it on their pages (I can now be found in some tumblr sites .. LinkedIn .. etc etc). Thanks for finding me funny / relevant / entertaining / whatever. My boyfriend is floating around on random sites with a dinosaur ahahaha

Now, some topics of choice:
1. Joel Plaskett - let's be real. This guy rocks and has been a staple in my music for many many years. I've seen him in concert SO many times ..sheer genius. He is my favorite cruising music :) When you get to the end of my post, I may just have included a favorite song for you to listen to!

2. Charlie Sheen - Just because Mom mentioned his life isn't nearly as crazy as hers is. I'd like to do a comparison list but 2 problems: 1. I don't know anything about Sheen. 2. I don't know how to make a chart on here :( Perhaps I'll google him and photoshop one up!

3. Winter - we're getting ANOTHER storm on Thursday. This is quickly getting old. Seriously. IT IS MARCH. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ALMOST SUMMER. Why lord, why? Snow? Where are you global warming? We should all joins forces with my mom and spray some hairspray in an effort to hurry it up and make us warm!! So, on the other hand they say March either comes in like a lion and out like a lamb or the opposite. So I guess that means we can look forward to a spectacular ending .. along with a beautiful April?!

4. Horses - I miss them SO much. If anyone reading this has a horse they want to lend me, please. Let me know?! Once the spring really arrives, I will desperately require some equine interaction back into my life. Weekly, at least. Preferably? Daily. Or, puppies. If anyone has a puppy I can love, I will be glad to take on the role of crazy dog lady. Has a better ring to it than crazy cat lady anyway!

Alright, so now that we've caught up on my relatively boring past 2 days, I have a photo of the day from yesterday ..I need to take today's still :( Just thinking of everything I still have to do is making me tired. That is never a good sign.
Yesterdays photo was the sky. With some clouds in it. I have no idea what day I'm on .. I'm too tired to count. Numbers make me nauseous. I want to do a good photo some day soon, it requires some nice weather though so I can get outside and do something more than same old, same old! I also need to keep working with my light box.
Here are my clouds :)

C'est fantastique, non? Also, I'm STILL looking for people who want to play model for me. Garret is either going to get sick of me trying to take his photo, or you people are going to think I'm obsessed with posting photos of him!! I have refrained from more photos of him, but need portraits. I can do closeups and landscapes are out until it's nice! So, don't be shy. Just tell me how badly you wish you could be a model. I have photoshop and will only post gorgeous / handsome photos of you! LOL. Oh well.. doesn't hurt to beg a little.

Now, to make good on my promise for a video. I present you, Joel Plaskett. He's great!

PS Joel, when are you coming back to Cape Breton?! Let a girl know. Promise to purchase tickets and hit that up! The island misses you :)
